South Stack and Cemlyn Part 2.

Headed back out today as the weather was not to bad, and the wind had died down a bit.

Stopped at Cemlyn first off about 09:00 and not a sole about except one guy who looked like he was removing his engine judging buy the amount of tools he had!!

Sandwich Terns were busy flying back and forth with sand eels and other catches.

Plenty of Arctic Terns around with a few Common Terns also, a lone Curlew was feeding along the banks. Two Redshanks and a few Oyster catcher's were about as well.

I did manage to also see a Raven in the field on the way out of the Bay, another first for me this year.

After a short drive to South Stack I found it pretty hard to park, all the lower car parks were full and I managed to get a slot after 10 minutes at the top car park.

All the usual birds near the light house, Guillemot, Razorbill and a few Puffin.
(I have walked down and up them steps to the lighthouse 6 times in 3 days and its getting a bit boring now).

A few Chough were about near to the higher car park along with, Meadow Pipit and Linnet.

The Stonechat are quite approachable here and tend to sit a while enabling very good views without the need for binoculars, makes getting a photo easy too.

The highlight today was the peregrines turning up and hunting around the cliffs, boy can they move.
Trying to get a photo while standing on the edge of a cliff, in the wind is near on impossible.

Juvenile Peregrine.

The series of images below are not very good quality, I was taking a photo of the above Stonechat.
All of a sudden the Peregrines appeared and I just used the settings I had, lucky they came out at all.
The female was dropping the catch the the juvenile pictured above.

South Stack and Cemlyn.

While staying on Anglesey I have made a few trips to South Stack and a trip to Cemlyn yesterday.
The wind was the biggest problem yesterday, making it hard to get photos and hold binoculars, still managed to have a good day none the less.

Loads of Arctic Terns about at Cemlyn busy feeding the young.

Sandwich Tern are feeding the young also, great to see them flying back and forth with sand eels.

I headed up into the cow field at Cemlyn (not to sure about the mind the Bull sign), to Stonechat and Meadow Pipits everywhere, flitting between the gorse.

The sight at South Stack is great thousands of sea birds flying back from feeding to the cliffs, bit of a climb to get back from the light house but worth it.

The Chough's are showing quite well and tend to visit the centre after closing, a pair has took to using the feeders also.

Loads of other birds about including a family of Peregrines who seem to be found mostly on an outcrop from the cliff.

Hope to get back today for another look.

South Stack.

Took a quick hour walk at South stack after work this afternoon hoping to see the Peregrines, I did but only as they flew over the hill never to be seen again.

Plenty of Meadow pipits around the heather feeding the young.

Loads of Stonechat around also, with some allowing quite close viewing, I usually have to watch from a distance but not today.

One bird I am having trouble getting a good shot of is the Chough, maybe due to the colour but I have 3 weeks so plenty of time yet.

RSPB South Stack.

As I am working on Anglesey for a few weeks it would have been rude not to visit South stack.

I managed to get there late afternoon, for a quick scout and was impressed with the time I had today.

Upon arrival before I even got my binoculars and camera out of the car, a Peregrine was circling with 2 young and dropping prey to them.

Plenty of sea birds around but mainly Guillemot and Razorbill.

I did manage to see a lone Puffin as it photo bombed one of my shots.

Quite a few Stonechat around with fledglings, and a few Meadow Pipits also.

I managed to see a Rock Pipit near the lighthouse really happy as its a first for me.

Another first for me today was a Chough, quite a few around today but not staying still for long and always flying over head.

Lots of Lesser Black-Backed Gulls around also with a few Herring in the mix.

Sunday 5 July 2015

RSPB Titchwell Marsh.

Headed to Titchwell late morning after deciding where to go. The drive was horrendous taking nearly 4 hours from Peterborough, must have been everybody heading to the beaches.
I did manage to see what I went for and spotted the the Spoonbills that had been reported, they were at a distance I managed to count 4 but sure another 2 were at the back of the island.

A summer plumage Ruff came quite close to one of the hides before flying of behind another island.

Plenty about today including a male Marsh harrier hunting over the reed beds, Avocets are in good numbers, but a gent was telling me that they had a bad breeding season here and are not sure why.

A lone Curlew was present, not seen many over the last few months and always a single.

Good numbers of Black Tailed Godwit around today also looking great in the summer plumage.

The insects also caught my eye today, never paid much attention before but had fun trying to get photos of them.

Speckled Wood.

Meadow Brown.

Red Admiral.

Common Blue Damselfly.

Broad-Bodied Chaser.

Red-Veined Darter.
